Another holiday season is upon us, and as we spend it with family and friends, we can begin to see how God’s love operates in our lives. The colorful Christmas lights and beautiful decorations are lovely, but what’s most beautiful to me is the story of how Jesus came to earth to set us free from sin, and give us hope and a future. This, and sharing Jesus’ love, is what makes this a very happy and joyful time of the year.
Unfortunately, the holiday season is not always a happy and joyful time for some people who are struggling with the loss of a loved one, or some other personal hardship. My article “Break Free From Holiday Depression,” gives step-by-step instructions on how to avoid the sadness that affects so many people during the holidays.
As we bring in the New Year, we can relax knowing that we don’t have to make the usual New Year’s resolutions about improving ourselves through our self-efforts. Everyone has something about themselves they want to improve, and that’s fine. But my article “Discover God’s Specific Plan for Your Life” shows us how to let God reveal the plan He already has in mind for our future. This plan is so much better than our own, and it changes us for the better from the inside out.
In “Maintaining Covenant Relationships,” Taffi shows us how to establish and maintain godly relationships. We need the guidance of the Holy Spirit when choosing which people are “safe” to be around. Whether it’s a friendship, a marriage, or a pastor-congregation relationship, God needs to be in the center if it is to be divinely ordained.
Many people have spiritual amnesia when it comes to knowing who they really are in Christ. Usually we identify who we are through our parents and grandparents, but my article “Knowing Your Identity” discusses our true identity as children of God. Meditating on what the Bible says about this is like looking into a mirror and seeing ourselves as God sees us.
Finally, in my “Faith Speaks” column, I discuss the importance of asserting our authority as Believers over any issues that try to rise up against us. The Bible is filled with promises to God’s children, and we have the power to make those promises come to pass by speaking and believing them. We claim the victory when we remember that whatever we want to see manifested in the physical realm originates in the spiritual realm.
